Rounded, rectangular, free-standing, wall-mounted… mirrors are powerful decorative objects that are always on trend. Unfortunately, if not placed properly, they can quickly turn out to be harmful to the atmosphere of our home. Here are a few tips to decorate your home without making a mistake!
To enlarge a room, bring light to its interior, or simply decorate, we opt for beautiful and large mirrors. But placing them in a room can sometimes seem complicated. No stress; we give you our little secrets for a trendy Feng Shui apartment. We fall for the mirror (my beautiful mirror) but with intelligence by following these 5 golden rules.
1. Be careful
The first rule- and probably the least respected of all concerns the placement of mirrors in a room. Many people have a dressing room with mirrored doors in their love nest. But even if it is convenient to be able to look at oneself directly after putting on one’s umpteenth outfit of the morning, it is not feng shui.
Especially, if this mirror is placed right in front of your bed. In Asian culture, the mirror represents a third person who would come to sow trouble in the couple. Placed right in front of the marital bed, it would be an invitation to adultery… Imagine a mirror hanging from the ceiling… We don’t know about you, but we are not really ready to put our couple in danger for a simple brass mirror…
If you are single or not very concerned about superstitions, you should know that mirrors in a room could also cause headaches and nightmares or even increase the risk of insomnia! Verdict: forget the large mirrors right in front of your bed and opt instead for small decorative mirrors that you place on the wall in a set of frames or mirrors placed on a dressing table.
2. Avoid glare
We know that a mirror can bring a lot of light to a room that is a little too dark if it is placed in front of an opening to the outside. But be careful; this is not a reason to stick mirrors everywhere in front of your windows, far from it.
The reflection of light is a very complex thing to control judiciously. To avoid glare and reflections that are too direct, we should never place a mirror in front of a bay window, a tile, or a pane. It is always preferable to place it in a corner or at an angle to the window.
3. The order and care you will reflect
It is always said that a mirror enlarges the room. Therefore, it is generally recommended to place them in studios or small apartments to give an effect of space. Unfortunately, in small interiors, it is rarely easy to keep your home perfectly tidy 24/7 (yes, we all know that chair that serves us more as a chest of drawers than as a living room). So we’ll think twice before installing a mirror on a wall that could potentially reflect our mess, and that would, in this case, give an impression of a real mess.
4. The head you will not decapitate
Large vertical mirrors can certainly enlarge a room, such as a long, cramped hallway, but there are a few rules to follow when positioning it. In general, it is placed at eye level, the equivalent of about 1.70m from the floor. It must not cut the head of the person who is looking at it and even less the half of the face.
On the other hand, we do not hesitate to place our mirror on the floor, slightly offset from the wall, in order to give us a slender silhouette. This technique is perfect for emphasizing our body (already perfect).
5. With logic, you will decorate
We will always avoid placing a mirror on the front door so as not to make a visitor or guest feel uncomfortable (logical). But we won’t place a mirror in front of our desk either; otherwise, hello, deconcentration and procrastination!

In our humble opinion, a bathtub is a perfect addition to your home and well worth the investment. I think a bathtub is more glamorous than a regular shower, and I use my bathtub to relax and relieve stress after a long day at work. However, the price of a bathtub may discourage some people from considering it a viable opinion, but believe me, it’s worth it, especially if you enjoy long baths.
